Regular Meeting of the Church Council May 8, 2012 6pm

REPORTS: Secretary – Cathy Steffen – M/S/P to approve minutes as written. Treasurer – Barb Haugen – M/S/P/ to accept the report and approve the expenditures. Financial Secretary – Laura Kujawa – M/S/P to accept the report as presented.
CORE MINISTRY REPORTS:
Caring & Outreach – Written Report – The Sacks (our Japanese Mission Partner) will be visiting sometime this summer. Date to be determined. Kaaren will be doing a Temple Talk on Faith Comes by Hearing on Memorial Day weekend.
Family Ministry – Written Report – We would like to thank Pat Sullivan, Jodi Sullivan, and Jodi Behrens for all their hard work and dedication to our ministry in the past years as they move on to new endeavors within our church! The committee will be purchasing a digital camera for use on our Facebook page and also other committees could borrow if needed. The Nursery is in need of a chair for this subcommittee to oversee background checks etc. Please consider this much needed position. Next Meeting June 6th @5:30 pm at Pastor Sara’s house for a “Brainstorming” session on the coming year.
Finance Ministry – Written Report – Approved focused offerings on Sundays for upcoming Kinship, Living at home, Bible Sticks & Meals on Wheels. Approved a $200 gift from Calvary to the NWMN Synod Assembly from the general fund synod assembly line. Giving in April was very positive with $46,887 given to General Fund, $6,792 for Building Fund, and over $2400 for our Mission Partner. Balances in key accounts are as follows: General Fund $41,708, Building fund $32,340, Associate Pastor $5,201. All external benevolences are current.
Learning Ministry – Written Report – The last day of Sunday school is May 13th. Senior recognition is May 20th at the 10:30 service and with the reception at 9:15.
Resource Ministry – Written Report – After reviewing the Key sign out list it has been decided that there will be an annual review of the keys in May. There are other painting projects, screens project, irrigation projects on the agenda for the coming months. Next meeting June 27th@6:30pm.
Worship Ministry - Written Report – The bell choir last performance until fall is on Mothers day. A notice of retirement was received from Helen Sheeran as Youth Choir director. Job postings will be posted for Senior Choir Director, Senior Choir Accompanist and Youth choir director posts. An open house is being planned for Helen and also Mary Linder to recognize their years of service and dedication to Calvary. A special American flag dedication from the Walsh family will be held on May 20th. Dates and times subject to change.
Youth Ministry-Verbal report form pastor Sara that the Rush of Fools event had about 550 kids. The Saturday night on-call event had around 45 kids attend.
BUSINESS:
1. A motion to approve all reports was M/S/P.
2. A motion was made to authorize to spend up to $3000 for updating costs on the 6-year old building design including a study of cost on taking down and rebuilding the fellowship hall, upgrading mechanical system to commercial grade and a study of wood construction or other recommendations. Monies would come out of the building fund. M/S/P.
3. A motion to hold a special congregational meeting on July 1st at 9am. M/S/P.
4. A motion to allow special offerings for the following: Meals on Wheels, Kinship, Living at Home, and Military Bibles sticks. M/S/P.
5. A motion for the Executive Board to meet with people from “Habitat for Humanity” on a special focused temple talk and offering; and for the executive board to proceed with if comfortable. M/S/P.
6. A motion to approve August 5th 2012 at 9am as the date for our annual meeting. M/S/P.
7. A motion to approve Cathy Steffen as the new part-time office assistant, with Cathy Steffen abstaining from voting was M/S/P. Announcements: None Adjournment: 8:15pm
